Synopsis

When a bullet pierced a calm August evening, it forced one family into tragedy and fractured lives in the small Oklahoma community. In this powerful memoir, a mom recounts her family’s grief, which was ignited by one seemingly harmless decision, resulting in the senseless and violent death of her five-year-old child. Full of haunting foreshadowing and ethereal experiences, this story traverses the barbed and foreign landscape of loss and the quest for justice. It entrenches the power and impact of one choice and of one life. Ultimately, this story is one of human resiliency that is rooted in a generous God, although He allows pain, He supplies what the human heart needs to confront the unthinkable.

About The Author

Renee Haley is a mum writing her own story of her son’s tragic and untimely death.

My Review

From its opening pages, ‘Tragedy’ grabs readers with its intense atmosphere and emotional scenes. Even though you know what is going to happen from the get-go, Renee Haley’s vivid descriptions create an ethereal experience that keeps us turning pages as we grapple with her family’s tragedy. The story follows the family through their grief and mourning, showing us how deeply it affects them both emotionally and physically. Even though there is no happy ending for this real-life tragedy, Haley does not shy away from exploring less talked about aspects such as anger towards God or feelings of guilt.

In order to come out on the other side of this devastating event, we follow along as they learn to lean into their generous God even when He allows pain – something which is often difficult to accept or understand. This story shows us how resiliency can be found even in our darkest moments if we are willing to open our hearts up to faith and healing. In addition, it powerfully illustrates how one life can have a lasting impact on an entire community for generations to come.

After this tragic accident by a serving police officer, shooting an unvenomous snake found in a neighbouring garden, it seems completely unbelievable that the court would not press full charges for their complete irresponsibility. The family requested a 30-day prison sentence to set a precedence for any future accidents, but they didn’t even get that. They got a suspended sentence which would be wiped off the record after a few short years with no record of their devastating actions and the death of poor Austin.

No review would be complete without expressing your sympathies for this close-knit family who have been through the most devastating and unnecessary loss imaginable.

If you are looking for a book that will leave you feeling both inspired and heartbroken at the same time, then look no further than ‘Tragedy’ by Renee Haley. This unforgettable story takes readers on an emotional journey through grief, loss, resilience, and ultimately hope – reminding us that although life is filled with unexpected twists and turns, faith can carry us through anything if we just keep holding onto it tightly enough. Perfect for readers who are looking for an honest exploration into human emotion during dark times!
