Synopsis

He said she jumped. He wouldn’t lie.

Before the woman went over the cliff, Pippa and Gabe were happy. They have the kind of marriage that everyone envies, as well as two sweet young daughters, a supportive family, and a picturesque cliff-side home – which would have been idyllic had the tall beachside cliffs not become so popular among those wishing to end their lives.

Gabe has become somewhat of a local hero since they moved to the cliff house, talking seven people down from stepping off the edge. But when Gabe fails to save the eighth, Amanda, a sordid web of secrets begins to unravel, pushing bonds of loyalty and love to the brink.

What wouldn’t you do for your soulmate?

My Review

The story is about Gabe and Pippa’s dream home in a coastal town which is a cottage on a cliff. But the cliff has become a popular spot for people to end their lives, and Gabe has been successfully talking them off the ledge. When a victim comes along whom he can’t talk down it becomes clear that it is someone whom Gabe knew, Pippa begins to question whether the victim was pushed and if Gabe is telling the truth. As the secrets in their marriage start to unravel, the perfect facade begins to crack.

The Soulmate is a gripping blend of mystery, romance, and family drama, with each element expertly woven together to create a rich and compelling narrative. The characters are well-drawn and fully realized, with each having their own motivations and secrets.

The novel explores themes of love, loss, and identity, and the search for meaning and purpose in life. The characters are all struggling with their own demons, providing a powerful exploration of the ways in which our pasts can shape our present and future.

The writing in The Soulmate is engaging and immersive, with vivid descriptions and well-crafted dialogue. The pacing of the novel is excellent, with the tension building steadily throughout the story. The Soulmate is also full of unexpected twists and turns, keeping the reader engaged and guessing until the very end.

I also enjoyed the way in which The Soulmate explores the complexities of relationships. The character’s relationships and interactions with each other are central to the story. The novel provides a powerful exploration of the bonds that form between people as well as the tensions and challenges that can arise.

Overall, The Soulmate is a gripping and thought-provoking novel that will stay with readers long after they have turned the final page. Sally Hepworth has created a rich and compelling world, populated by characters that are both memorable and relatable. Highly recommended for anyone who loves a good mystery with a strong emotional core.
