This is a great feel-good read. It’s the second in a series of which I hadn’t read the first but it worked fine as a stand-alone book and I didn’t feel I had missed anything.
Stella Gallagher has fallen madly in love with Paolo Gentillo, but when he drops the bombshell that his visa is about to expire Stella doesn’t know what to do. She has a lot of secrets and a past she would rather forget but will Pablo understand and still love her?
Stella has never wanted to get married and have children, but Pablo wants it all. Pablo’s mother is visitng from Italy immenently and they need to make sime big decisions, they work through their insecurities together and try to reconcile their pasts. Some of the scenes between Sella and Pablos mother, Rosalina are particularly humourous!
The characters are relevant, well developed, and believable. The stresses and strains of long distance planning are well portrayed. The depiction of the strong Italian family with the strong mother is also very realistic.
The ending was lovely and i really enjoyed this book.
Set between the USA and Italy, the scenery is beautifully described throughout, a real treat especially if you love Italy and its vineyards. The writing flow beautifully and while it is a feel-good romance, its not your usual boy meets girl and everything is perfect, they have to work at their relationship which makes it far more realistic. The typical roles where the girl wants marriage and a baby are also reversed which is great to see.
This is a fight for happiness, full of charm, emotion, and warmth. It’s about learning to trust and let go of the past for a better future. A perfect read for anyone who likes romance, wine, love or who has an interfering Mother-in-law!
