I’m Back!

by thesleepyreader

Hi Readers!

How are you all? I’m sorry I have been absent for so long; I hadn’t been planning to stay away at all. In the normal way of life, I felt like I was going to miss a couple of days and then suddenly its weeks later and I haven’t been back at all! It’s not even been a particularly exciting time either.

Eye operation

I had another eye operation to clear my left eye a few weeks ago which was great at the time but has failed again already (this was necessary after my last operation also failed) one in three does fail (have another bleed) so hopefully next time will be lucky though I won’t be planning another for a while, if at all. I am waiting on a follow up now so will see what happens then before any decisions are made.

It’s disappointing as it means I am again blind in my left eye but I can see from my right eye so I can still read so that’s much better than last year, I’ll take it!

Home

We have had the builders in working on our back garden for the last few weeks as well. It’s finally finished, after a few revisions along the way, the furniture is in and arranged and the first of the plants are in and looking good so far.  I’m really looking forward to being able to use the garden after a summer of no use (which has been horrible in the beautiful sun!) but as life goes, just a couple of days after it’s all done the rain began.

We have some herbs and veg planted which we are hoping to grow for Christmas dinner and have some new trees coming in the next couple of weeks which I cant wait for!

Reading

Now, onto the more exciting things. June was a terrible month for reading which led into a massive reading slump through most of July. I haven’t had a reading slump for many years, though I did read less last year when my eyes were both poorly and I couldn’t see well enough to read much and it made me super tired. This time I just couldn’t get into any book, anything I did read just seemed to drag forever and I found it particularly difficult to get into a book as it was hard to follow at a slow pace.

I went through a spate of average books which made reading a little less enjoyable and I felt like I might never read a really good book ever again! (Dramatic…Moi?) ultimately, I didn’t even want to pick up a book to read.

I struggled through my book club reads as I felt I needed to complete them and discuss them, which I love, but nothing else would work and I tried everything.

Eventually something shifted though, and I was finally able to read again, which was the most amazing day. I just fell into a book and didn’t come out for a while, totally engrossed. Since then, I have been a little slower than normal, partly due to everything else going on and the weather being so hot I couldn’t get comfortable to read but I am back on track I think.

Reviews

Which brings me nicely along to reviews. I have some great books to share with you, unfortunately some are a little delayed but I’m sure you’ll still enjoy the books and for those who use the library, hopefully the waiting list for new releases will be a little shorter now so a great time to look them up.

Upcoming

Though I am hoping for some more sunny days in September to enjoy the new garden I am also looking forward to Autumn and the lovely crispness that it brings. I love crunching through the fallen leaves and, as it gets colder, the snug cosy evenings reading in the snug with the fire lit, on the sofa with the dogs and a hot chocolate.

I have a busy month too, im working more and away a couple of weekends too, which may include a new book shop visit or two if I’m really lucky!

until next time, happy reading!

Jody
