I loved meeting Carly in the Rose Gardner Investigations series and then finding more about her in the first in her own series, but this took us through more of Carly’s life and fears. Her character and depth grow more and more with each book, she is a strong, intelligent and smart woman who knows how to hold her own!
There is a lot going on in here (as with most of Denise’s books) Carly makes new connections with people easily and makes quick friends with Lula and seems genuinely concerned when she goes missing, they are legitimate concerns and through the twists and turns in the book, we learn more about Lula and her past as well as the other characters.
The relationship between Carly and Hank is really special and I’ve really enjoyed seeing it blossom, I feel like Carly needs some real family love in her life in the form of friends rather than a love affair. I hope to see this come into its own a little more in the next book.
This is a fast-paced, fairly quick read that will keep your attention throughout and leave you wanting more at the end…good job it’s not too long to wait for the next book in the series!
