My Review
Fly Away by Kristin Hannah is a poignant and heart-wrenching novel about family, love, loss, and healing. The story follows the lives of the Ryan family, who are struggling to cope with the sudden death of their beloved daughter, mother and friend, Kate. As they each try to come to terms with their grief and find a way forward, they must confront the painful secrets and misunderstandings that have kept them apart for so long.
One of the strengths of Fly Away is the way in which it delves deep into the emotions and experiences of each character. Hannah has a gift for creating complex and fully realized characters, and each member of the Ryan family is portrayed with sensitivity and depth. The novel explores themes of forgiveness, redemption, and the power of love to heal even the deepest wounds.
The writing in Fly Away is beautiful and evocative, with lyrical descriptions and vivid imagery that bring the story to life. Hannah’s storytelling is masterful, weaving together multiple plot threads and perspectives in a way that is both seamless and engaging.
Another highlight of the novel is the way in which it addresses the challenges faced by families dealing with addiction and mental illness. The Ryan family is shown to be deeply flawed, with each member struggling to overcome their demons and find peace. But despite their struggles, they are ultimately shown to be resilient and capable of coming together in times of crisis.
This is a very different type of novel to the first in the series, Firefly Lane, but it brings Tully, Marah and Cloud together in a unique and wonderful way. I really enjoyed the different perspectives in Fly Away and the way things turn around bringing a beautiful, though difficult, ending to Firefly Lane.
Overall, Fly Away is a moving and thought-provoking novel that will resonate with anyone who has experienced the pain of loss and the hope of healing. Kristin Hannah is a gifted writer who has created a deeply moving story that is both heart-wrenching and hopeful. Highly recommended for fans of family dramas and stories of resilience and love.
