My Review

The Vanishing of Class 3B follows a primary school class and their teachers on a day trip that goes terribly wrong. As the parents wait to collect their children, they realize that the class and their teachers are missing.

The premise of the book is intriguing and had a lot of potential, but I found it to be quite tame and predictable. The plot was fairly straightforward, and I guessed most of what was going to happen from the first few chapters. I was hoping for more suspense and surprises, but unfortunately, the story fell flat.

One of the major issues I had with the book was the characters. I found most of them to be quite annoying and unlikable. The parents were portrayed as wealthy and privileged, and I did feel empathy towards them but as we go through the story there are many times where I wanted to bang their heads together, as none of them appeared to have much sense! Their children are missing, and they claim to want to do anything to help get them back as soon as possible except it seems to actually help the police to find them.

The teachers were also quite bland and didn’t have much personality or depth. The ending perhaps shows them to be a little cleverer than they appeared but there wasn’t anything outstanding about any of them. Additionally, the police were a complete farce! The children are missing, there is a communication that tells them what to do but they don’t appear to want to do the obvious and chose a different response instead.

There were a few interesting plot points that kept me reading, but overall, the book didn’t leave much of an impression on me. It was a quick read, but I didn’t feel invested in the story or the characters. The resolution of the mystery was also quite predictable, and I wasn’t surprised by the outcome, despite the many twists and turns.

Despite my lukewarm feelings towards the book, I do think it would be an enjoyable read for those who are looking for a light and easy mystery. The book is well-written, and the pacing is good, making it a quick and entertaining read. However, if you’re looking for a gripping and suspenseful thriller, this may not be the book for you.

In conclusion, while The Vanishing of Class 3B didn’t quite meet my expectations, it is still a decent read for those who enjoy light mysteries. It has a good pace and is well-written, but the characters and plot could have been developed further. If you’re looking for a quick and easy read, give it a try, but don’t expect too much from it.
