Ronnie Turner grew up in Cornwall, the youngest in a large family. At an early age, she discovered a love of literature. She now works as a Senior Waterstones Bookseller and barista. Ronnie lives in the South West with her family and three dogs. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling and taking long walks on the coast.

My Review

John Graham is living his best life as a best-selling author and his wife, Jules a successful gallery owner. They are excitedly expecting their second child when their first, six-year-old Bonnie goes missing from their home. This is clearly a well-planned and executed abduction but why? Meanwhile, Maisie Green is an ICU nurse caring for her patient, Tim who has been so badly beaten that he may not pull through. His wife, Heidi is beside his bed every day with his best friend, Watson. Maisie can’t shake the feeling that something isn’t right though.

However, then there is Miller who is the most intriguing character and the creepiest. His storyline is based in the past, recounting his childhood. Miller’s chapters will give you chills, and his creepiness is just so well described you feel like he is behind you while you read.

This book starts off with a bang and never lets up! It’s full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end. Turner does an excellent job of setting up each character’s backstory but you have no idea how they relate to each other or how the three stories will weave together until the bitter end. The pacing feels just right – not too slow or too fast – which makes for a truly satisfying read.  There are moments of tension sprinkled throughout which keeps the suspense high at all times – you’ll never know what’s going to happen next! And, wow, is it ever creepy!

Each character has their own unique backstory that continues to develop as the novel progresses. Turner does an incredible job of giving each character their due time to shine without taking away from the main storyline in any way – every detail matters in this book! The characters are connected in ways they don’t even know yet and it is interesting to see how their storylines intertwine as the novel progresses, through to the explosive ending.

Turner’s writing style is intricate and menacing as the story shifts between perspectives and timelines. The plot quickly unravels as it spins readers through a highly complex story filled with well-timed surprises, unforeseen twists, & mind games. The characters are distressed, raw, compassionate and depraved which makes for an incredibly engaging read that you won’t be able to put down!

I read this after seeing an excellent review for Ronnie Turner’s second book, So Pretty, which I loved so this was an obvious choice. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had left a bit more of a gap between the two books as they are quite intense reads, but I hope to have a while now before her next release.
