My Review
The Catch starts off slow but quickly ramps up into an exciting and suspenseful ride as we follow Ed on his mission to uncover Ryan’s secrets as he digs deeper and deeper into the truth of what happened in Ryan’s past. With twists that you won’t see coming and plenty of shocks along the way, readers will be kept guessing until the very end – making this an excellent choice for fans of psychological thrillers looking for a good read!
It’s refreshing to see a male protagonist who is not believed or taken seriously when warning others about the danger they face – which often mirrors our own real-life experiences – even if it does add an extra layer of tension and disbelief as readers are forced to question whether or not Ed is right in his assumptions about Ryan or if he’s going mad with paranoia. This part is usually filled by a ‘neurotic woman’ who is convinced she is correct. Here we see it filled by a man who thinks he is losing his mind instead!
I enjoyed the characters in this but particularly Ed who is the ultimate helicopter dad. He was so endearing and clearly loves his daughter so much. His dark humour and obsessive behaviour made space for plenty of laughs and you would be forgiven for thinking that he is, in fact, just losing the plot as he doesn’t want to let go of his beloved daughter.
The ending wraps up all loose ends and while I didn’t like the ending too much (as in how it ended) I do think it was the right ending.
The story keeps hitting you around the face with shocks as it gets to the end, and I was quite gutted that it ended how it did (it was the right ending, just sad).
All in all, T.M Logan’s The Catch is an excellent psychological thriller that keeps readers guessing until it’s thrilling conclusion. With plenty of twists and turns plus some much-needed realism from its male protagonist who isn’t believed despite what he knows, this book is sure to please any fan of crime fiction looking for their next great read!
