Tiffy and Leon share a flat
Tiffy and Leon share a bed
Tiffy and Leon have never met…

Tiffy Moore needs a cheap flat, and fast. Leon Twomey works nights and needs cash. Their friends think they’re crazy, but it’s the perfect solution: Leon occupies the one-bed flat while Tiffy’s at work in the day, and she has the run of the place the rest of the time.

But with obsessive ex-boyfriends, demanding clients at work, wrongly imprisoned brothers and, of course, the fact that they still haven’t met yet, they’re about to discover that if you want the perfect home you need to throw the rulebook out the window…

Beth O’Leary is a Sunday Times bestselling author whose novels have been translated into more than thirty languages. Her debut, THE FLATSHARE, sold over half a million copies and changed her life completely. Her second novel, THE SWITCH, has been optioned for film by Amblin Partners, Steven Spielberg’s production company. Beth writes her books in the Hampshire countryside with a very badly behaved golden retriever for company. If she’s not at her desk, you’ll usually find her curled up somewhere with a book, a cup of tea and several woolly jumpers (whatever the weather).

Tiffy and Leon share a flat and a bed but have never met, it seems like an excellent idea for young people to do when money is tight, and they aren’t using the flat much. Leon works nightshifts, so he is only in the flat during the day, and Tiffy works the day shift, so she is only in the apartment at night; it’s the perfect fit for them. We know where this is going from the outset, but it is a romance novel, not unexpected. The unfolding is where the beauty lies, and in this case, it’s a lovely story.

Tiffy has a lovely backstory and is a loveable character. She is a little quirky (as you would probably expect from this arrangement!), and she is full of genuine emotions and feelings. Tiffy is relatable, and despite all of the above, she is still vulnerable and weak in some ways.

Leon is just lovely. They leave each other sweet little notes about mundane things like leftover food and the bins, but this helps build their relationship. He is quiet, and his backstory is touching, showing his underlying emotions and heart.

The Flatshare is a light read but also full of emotions. It deals with some serious issues surrounding relationships. Still, it’s done well and sensitively, appropriately for a light read. I also enjoyed the ending, al very cute and sweet and perfect for the characters.

I found the writing good, filled with plenty of funny moments and witty dialogue between the characters.

I would recommend this cute and sweet story to anyone who likes a light, rom-com type read.
