Welcome to my review of A Sunrise Over Bali (The Holiday Romance, Book 4) by Sandy Barker. I jumped right in with book 4 but it worked brilliantly as a stand-alone read for me.

Home is where the heart is . . .
When Jaelee Tan leaves her high-flying PR job in Miami for a sabbatical in Bali, the last thing she expects is for it to become permanent. But when her boss demands the trip be cut short, Jae does the only thing she can think of and quits on the spot.
With two months in Bali, a new group of friends and the gorgeous scenery and beaches, Jae is determined to make the most of her new-found freedom. And when she locks eyes with hunky Scot, Alistair, Jae wonders if she’ll lose her heart to more than just a Balinese sunrise.
Escape to Bali in this uplifting novel full of friendship, laughter and romance, perfect for fans of Mandy Baggot, Julie Caplin and Holly Martin.
I’m a writer, traveller and hopeful romantic with a lengthy bucket list. I love exploring new places, outdoor adventures, and eating and drinking like a local when I travel, and many of my travel adventures have found homes in my novels. I’m also an avid reader, a film buff, a wine lover and a coffee snob.
My first novel, a romantic comedy set in Greece and inspired by my real-life love story, was published in June 2019 by One More Chapter (HarperCollins). In 2020, two follow-ups in the Holiday Romance series hit the shelves: That Night in Paris and A Sunset in Sydney. My novel, The Christmas Swap, is a stand-alone inspired by some of my own Christmas adventures, and coming soon is a stand-alone romcom set in the world of Reality Television. This will be followed up by books 4 and 5 in the Holiday Romance series, and I am currently co-writing a contemporary thriller with Fiona Leitch.

I chose to read this as I fancied a bit more romance and have heard that Sandy Barker writes a great one so thought I would start off with her newest book.
This book provided some excellent escapism which was just what I wanted, to travel somewhere different for a couple of days! Mostly set in Bali where Jaelee Tan has taken a two-month sabbatical for a much-needed break, six months after gaining the promotion of her career. Unfortunately, on the first day, after what she deems a completely unreasonable request she quits! Newly unemployed for the first time in her life she decides to enjoy the break, work out what she wants from life and plan for after her return. When her circumstances change again though she isn’t so sure she wants to go home again.
I really enjoyed the idea of two months away, in the sunshine, making new friends and just enjoying life. The scenery was beautifully described, though I’m not quite sure I would want to travel to Bali myself given the dirt, rubbish and grime in places and the unruly, wild roads!
I really enjoyed the large range of characters from all over the world and all kinds of different backgrounds, each travelling for a different reason but mostly wanting to work through their issues and work out who they are or where their life is heading. This made for a nice group of people together in unique circumstances, who may never have met otherwise.
The ending had the predictable happily ever after which was beautifully written and the perfect ending for Jaelee and Alistair.
This was brilliantly written and kept a good pace throughout, with many sub adventures and interesting characters. A lovely book to savour, even better as a summer read or when you want that summer feeling.
