Previously published as Becky, this is the heartbreaking story behind the murder of 16-year-old Bristol schoolgirl Becky Watts, a crime that shocked the nation and tore a family in two.

A vulnerable and shy girl, Becky Watts was brutally murdered and dismembered by her own step-brother on 19 February 2015. As her father Darren discovered the horrific details of what happened to his darling girl, his world fell apart.

Writing about the darkest hours, Darren uncovers what Becky’s relationship with her step-brother Nathan, a child he had raised as his own son, was really like. He recalls the devastation of discovering the truth about the depravity with which Becky was torn from him in the safety of her own home. And he recounts the torment of the legal battle to see his step-son sentenced to life behind bars.

Both heartfelt and haunting, searingly honest and unflinching, this is the ultimate story of a family tragedy.

Darren Galsworthy is the father of murdered school girl, Becky Watts who went missing from Bristol in 2015. Later she ws found to have been murdered by her step-brother, who she had grown up with.

This book is the brilliant and heart-breaking story of Becky Watts by her Father, Darren Galsworthy. It tells us of Becky’s life and her tragic death, aged 16, along with details of what happened next. I was particularly interested in this as I lived in Bristol when the events occurred in 2015.

Becky had a difficult upbringing but mainly lived with her father, stepmother, brother, and stepbrother Nathan. She was very close to her parent’s and got along well with her brothers, which sounds a little far-fetched. Still, nobody could predict the terrible ending she would come to at the hands of her stepbrother, Nathan, who murdered and dismembered her. The devastating effect on the family and friends. The difficulties of discovering her body and the trial and aftermath are covered in detail.

Poor Darren Galsworthy sounds like a broken but powerful man. Writing about the case and what happened must have been impossibly difficult for him, not to mention going through everything.

The book goes into many details about her death and trial and is quite disturbing to listen to or read. It covers things you couldn’t even begin to comprehend someone could do to another, especially someone they had grown up with. One of the most devastating reads I have read in the past year; it’s very raw and emotional coming from Becky’s father.

I listened to the audiobook, which is brilliantly voiced and well written.

I hope writing this has brought some closure to Darren Galsworthy and his family to find peace over the years.
