Welcome to The Sleepy Reader Blog!

Hi, I’m Jody, thanks for coming to visit!

I’m in my late thirties and am a mum to two teenagers, well, one is almost 20 now and wife to a great man, who I have been with since I was 15! I work full time as a Company Director for multiple technology companies that we own by day (and sometimes nights and weekends when necessary!).

In my free time though I am a very committed reader, I read everywhere I can; in bed, in the bath, on the sofa, in the car, anywhere I can sneak in a few pages. I have always loved reading since I was a child and enjoy escaping to other worlds beyond my own, I find books so easy to slip into and if they aren’t then they probably aren’t for me.

I also spend a lot of time sleeping… I like to sleep, A LOT! I can fall asleep pretty much anywhere and for any length of time and often enjoy an afternoon nap whenever possible, hence being ‘The Sleepy Reader’.

You know you’ve read a good book when you turn the last page and feel a little as if you have lost a friend.

I regularly read around 70-80 books a year and have always been very committed to paperbacks, hardbacks are too heavy and the kindle isn’t a real book, right? That is until a couple of years ago when I found the love for the kindle. It makes it far easier to read at night while my husband sleeps, so he doesn’t moan about the light being on. Now I read almost exclusively on there… in fact last year I donated almost all of my books! I have a few favourites, favourites from when my children were small and signed copies but that’s about it, I have to say, it doesn’t make for a great book display!

While I have had a number of Kindles in the past (which I pass onto other family and friends) I currently read on the Kindle Oasis. This is my second one and I love it. It’s safe to read in the bath or pool with, can store thousands of books and downloads new ones in seconds, what more could you want?

I read mostly Romance, Mysteries and Thrillers, I like discovering new (or new to me) authors and will try other genres aside from Science Fiction. I read a little non-fiction too but not so much as I like to immerse myself in someone else’s world and non-fiction is more for me to learn rather than immerse.

My resolution for 2020 is not only to read 80 books but to review them all as well.

At the end of 2019, I discovered NetGalley and the excitement of reading pre-release books and being able to review them. I now read a lot of books from there as well as the ones I purchase. I always have quite a list of books to be read and love to add more books to the pile as I find them.

I enjoy reading other book reviews and find them really valuable so I decided to have a go myself. I now review on NetGalleyAmazon and GoodReads regularly. Each year for the last two year, I have done the GoodReads Reading Challenge as well which I love. I have never recorded how many books I read before then but it’s good to see the numbers increasing.

I wanted to start a blog so I can keep track of what I have read during the year all in one easy to check place. If you have found me hidden away in my little corner of the net and you’ve read the same books, why not leave me a comment and let me know what you thought about it?
