Meet Me In London Book Review

What do you do when your fake engagement starts to feel too real…

Aspiring clothes designer Victoria Scott spends her days working in a bar in Chelsea, and her evenings designing vintage clothes, dreaming of one day opening her own boutique. But these aspirations are under threat from the new department store opening at the end of her road. She needs a Christmas miracle, but one is not forthcoming.

Oliver Russell’s Christmas is not looking very festive right now. His family’s new London department store opening is behind schedule, and on top of that his interfering, if well meaning, mother is pressing him to introduce his girlfriend to her. A girlfriend who does not exist. He needs a diversion. Something to keep his mother from interfering while he focuses on the business.

When Oliver meets Victoria, he offers a proposition: pretend to be his girlfriend at the opening of his store and he will provide an opportunity for Victoria to showcase her designs. But what starts as a business arrangement soon becomes something more tempting, as the fake relationship starts to feel very real. But when secrets in Victoria’s past are exposed will Oliver walk away, or will they both follow their hearts and find what neither knew they were looking for…

Georgia Toffolo is a broadcaster and TV personality. She has been a firm favourite with the public right from the start of her TV debut, Made in Chelsea, all the way to winning over the hearts of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here fans by being crowned Queen of the Jungle in 2017. Georgia has been able to amalgamate the influencer world with her broadcasting career and has thus created a wonderfully loyal audience.

Georgia now regularly features on ITV’s This Morning and has dived into the world of fiction with publishing house Mills and Boon. She resides in London with her beloved Cavalier, Monty.

This is a delightful debut novel from Georgina Toffolo, which is entirely immersible. Victoria works in a bar in Chelsea, but her passion is designing clothes. She dreams of opening her own boutique. Oliver is a successful businessman who’s mother expects to meet his non-existent fiancé at his new store. As an exchange, Victoria pretends to be Oliver’s fiancé in return for showcasing some of her designs at his store opening.

Victoria is a wholesome character, a really good girl who is passionate about sharing her love for design with the teenagers she teaches. She is genuinely a loveable character. Oliver took me a while longer to warm to but is also quite loveable. Before long, I was invested in both characters and wanted to see how their fake relationship developed. I was rooting for it to turn into more.

This is the perfect Christmas read, an excellent and straightforward read, its simple escapism perfect for some feel-good romance.

The audiobook of this was read by Georgina herself. She has the most lovely, soothing voice, which adds to the storytelling. I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook after reading initially. It would be a delightful read while preparing for Christmas!
