The First Wave Book Review

Time for something a little different! Over the next 9 days, I am going to review all of Lana Melyan’s ‘The Weight of Magic” series. these are written as sort novellas like a Netflix or TV series and having binge read them in that way I thought I would review them in that way too!

I have never read a book by Lana Meylan before, but I had heard a lot of chatter about book 9 on a Facebook group and so really wanted to give it a try! These are short novella’s of around 70 pages each and are designed to be read in order to tell the story in a similar way to a TV series.

I’m the daughter of a powerful warlock. Magic is in my blood.

Something bad is brewing in the magical world, and I can’t wait for my powers to kick in, so I can help the coven, be useful. But I’m nearly eighteen and still not a witch.

Where did my magic go? And why do my witch parents act so suspiciously when I come to them with my questions?

On the first day of school, I notice a guy, too old to be a student. He watches me from afar – sometimes with a smirk, sometimes with a frown on his handsome face.

The question is – what does he want from me?

My best friend Connie thinks it’s merely an innocent flirt, but something tells me that the answer is more complicated than that.

The novella series The Weight of Magic is a quick-paced, exciting ride with unexpected turns and twists. It’s like a TV show in a book form. Each episode tells one portion of the story and is designed to be read in order. Fans of The Vampire Diaries, Twilight, Legacies, and devoted friend and powerful witch Bonnie Bennett, will love Lana Melyan’s brand new series. Start your binge read now.

Lana Melyan is the author of paranormal fantasy novels filled with epic love stories, great adventure, magic, humor, and strong and powerful heroines.
When she’s not writing, she likes to binge-watch TV shows, and that’s where the idea of the new, fast-paced, episodic format of The Weight of Magic serials came from.
Video games are her other hobby. Lara Croft has instilled in her a love for PS games and her The Eternity Road book trailer is narrated by Nathan McCree, the composer of the first three Tomb Raider games.
Lana has studied literature for five years. She lives in beautiful Norway with her two daughters.

In book one we meet Connie and Nicky, two teenagers who are fairly normal with the usual issues of what to wear, boyfriend (or lack of) issues and going to school etc. They also have the added issue that Connie already has some magical powers as a witch and Nicky is waiting for her magical powers to come in!

Living in a world of witches, warlocks and vampires is already reasonably normal for them but they become more immersed as time goes on. This book is mainly about waiting for Nicky’s powers to come through and setting out what their lives are like.

The characters introduced are very likeable and well developed. The ending leaves you on a cliffhanger, setting you up ready for the next book.

A really enjoyable and quick read, it took me an hour or two to read cover to cover, a great little break from reality and knowing the others have all been released meant I could binge these over a few days!
